2010 ARRL WPA Simulated Emergency Test Successful

The 2010 Simulated Emergency Test (SET) for the Western Pennsylvania Division (WPA) of the ARRL was conducted on Saturday, October 30, 2010.  Members of the Nittany Amateur Radio Club (NARC) participated in the drill.  They were:

  • Woody, K3YV at the ‘Eat and Park’ mass care center then at the NARC Mountain Top station.
  • John, W3JXP at the National Weather Service (NWS) office
  • Rory, KR3ORY, at the Filmore Mass Care Center
  • Craig, K3OOL at the Park Forest Mass Care Center
  • Chuck, K3CM at the Ferguson Township Mass Care Center
  • Eric, W3EDP as a roving mobile
  • Dick, K3BIE as a roving mobile
  • Bill, KA3EDZ as a roving mobile
  • Ken, KB1BH
  • Chuck, N3CRM
  • Jim, KB3TBX
  • Bob, AD3K at the Mt Nittany UMC Mass Care Center
  • Carmine, K3CWP at the Centre County EMA Office
  • Mark, NK8Q at the Centre County EMA Office
  • Steve, N3BCA at the Raytheon EOC
  • Dave, K3DWH at the Raytheon EOC

In addition to the above, Centre County EMA Director Randy Rockey came to the Centre County EMA office to observe the drill.  Also checking in from out of county were:

The amateurs at mass care centers ‘simulated’ from their homes or vehicles.

Nine formal messages were handled as well as a number of informal messages.  Several Centre County stations checked into the PA NTS net on 3.983 mHz, including the EMA office.  Other operations were conducted on the 146.25/85 repeater.

This was a very successful SET for Centre County.
