Amateurs Provide Communications for 4-H Trail Ride

Centre County amateur radio operators provided communications support for the annual Keystone 4-H Horse and Pony Club, Pennsylvania Competitive Trail Ride on Saturday, September 18th through the Rothrock State Forest.

Riders and horses from various parts of the Commonwealth converged on the Penn Roosevelt State Park in the Rothrock State Forest and rode through various parts of the forest ending up back at Penn Roosevelt.  Centre County amateur radio operators and Nittany Amateur Radio Club members provided communications support throughout the event.  Parts of Rothrock are remote enough at there is no other form of communication available in case of emergencies.  Fortunately Nittany Amateur Radio Club repeaters cover that area.

Even more fortunately the ride was very safe this year neither horses nor riders were injured.

Participating amateur radio operators were:

  • W3JXP, John, who organized the amateur support
  • WB3AEI, Chuck
  • N3LI, Mike
  • KB3TBX, Jim
  • KB1BH, Ken
