Amateur radio operators from Centre and Mifflin Counties participated in a Skywarn net to recognize and celebrate the cooperation between the National Weather Service and Amateur Radio Operators. The net was conducted on Saturday, December 5th, 2009 at 9:00 AM from the National Weather Service office in State College, PA.
Centre County EC, Carmine Prestia, K3CWP, operated as Net Control Station with the assistance of Matt Steinbugl, KB3RJW. Matt is also an NWS employee who has become the local NWS contact with amateur radio in Centre County.
The net was conducted on the W3GA Repeater, 146.76- with nine stations checking in. As Murphy would have it the weather was bad and stations were reporting real conditions in the midst of a snowstorm. This included a report of an accident, reports of bridges on the Interstate being slippery, and the snow and temperature conditions in each amateur’s area. The file attached to this message is a listing of the stations checking in and their reports.
