Successful WPA/ARC Spring Simulated Emergency Test

Numerous amateur stations participated in the WPA Spring SET on Saturday, April 5th from 10:00 to 12:00.  A number of stations activated or simulated activating emergency locations or shelters.  Here’s a brief summary of some of the activity taken from Greg, K3HOT’s report from WX3CTP/NWS State College, and Brett, W3SWL’s log of the KC3WQG American Red Cross station.

From NWS WX3CTP

  • 17 contacts were completed
  • 4 Emergency Locations (EOCs/Hospital) were contacted
  • 6 Repeaters were used
  • 10 Counties were contacted

From the Red Cross log

  • 26 Contacts were made
  • 7 Counties were contacted
  • 8 Shelters were simulated
  • 4 Emergency locations (EPCs/Hospital) were contacted

In addition to the activity in Eastern Centre County, Western Centre County and Clearfield participated under the guidance of Bob, KC3KVS and the Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association using both amateur radio repeaters and GMRS repeaters.  This involved coordinated planning by leadership in both Eastern Pennsylvania and Western Pennsylvania.

Chip, N3IW, made up a shelter report using a standard ARRL Radiogram, sent that to Bill, WX2DX.  Bill then made up a shelter report using Winlink and sent that to the American Red Cross.

Greg, K3HOT, activated the NWS station and Carmine, K3CWP, activated the amateur radio station at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  Carmine also simulated deployment to the Centre County Emergency Operations Center from the parking lot at Willowbank Building in Bellefonte.

This turned out to be a very successful operation involving many stations over a wide area.  A more complete report should be produced later by the Eastern Pennsylvania Section who led the effort.

Here are the logs used to generate the above numbers:
