On August 17, 2019 Centre County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) participated in a Water Rescue Drill at the Foster Joseph Sayers Lake sponsored by the South Central Mountain Regional Task Force (SCMRTF). ARES was invited to participate by the coordinator, Chief Lou Brungard of the Pleasant Gap Fire Company. The drill started with a safety briefing at 09:00 at the Howard Fire Company and ended at 11:54 when all units were recalled to the Incident Command Post for an after action briefing. ARES participation ended after the briefing. Planning and execution of the drill followed Incident Command System guidelines. Evaluators for fire and rescue services were also in attendance.

Centre County Amateur Radio Operators Participate in MS Glimcher Keystone Country Ride
On July 20 and 21 nine Centre County amateur radio operators helped provide communications for the Multiple Sclerosis Glimcher Keystone Country Ride. Over 25 hams from Centre, Blair, and Huntingdon Counties as well as hams from as far away as Maryland participated in the two day event, most for both days. Continue reading

It may seem quite a ways off yet, but planning for the 2019 Bike MS: Glimcher Keystone Country Ride Amateur Radio Public Service Event is going on now. This year’s Ride will be Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, 2019. The Ride is over two days and covers 150 miles. On the first day, the Ride goes from Hollidaysburg, PA, to State College, PA. On the second day, it’s back to Hollidaysburg from State College. Continue reading

PEMA Activates ACS for Winter Weather Event
Due to the predicted winter storm, ACS will be Activating from Saturday 1/19 08:00 Thru Monday 1/21 TBD an HF Net will be established on the HQ Primary Daytime and Nighttime Frequencies starting on Saturday at 0800. PEMA ACS will also monitor the PaNBEMS HF Frequencies and PEMA ACS DMR Talkgroup on the Brandmister network starting at that time. Stations are asked to report their current weather conditions. This information will be used to provide PEMA with corroborating information on where the snow, ice, and rain is occurring throughout PA for situational awareness and operations planning. Hams help another successful MS-150 Bicycle Ride
Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22, amateur radio operators from Centre and surrounding counties again coordinated communications for the event we call the MS-150. The Multiple Sclerosis Society named this year’s ride the Glimcher Keystone Country Ride 2018 to honor one of their significant donors. The ride starts in Hollidaysburg, Blair County and ends in State College, Centre County on Saturday then returning on Sunday for a total of 150 miles. Continue reading
Centre County Amateurs Participate in Skywarn Recognition Day
Skywarn Recognition Day 2017 was scheduled for Saturday December 2. Matt, K3RMS and Carmine, K3CWP arranged for participation starting about 14:00 UTC.
